Magpupungko Rock Pools

Magpupungko Rock Formations are a series of natural tidal pools found in the town of Pilar, on the east coast of Siargao, Surigao del Norte province, Philippines. It is a 45-minute drive from General Luna, Siargao's main hub for surfers and general tourists, and also from Del Carmen, where the equally stunning Sugba Lagoon is located.

The rock formations are named after the Visayan word "pungko," which means "to squat." The larger rock formation, which is the main attraction, resembles a giant rock squatting on a smaller rock. The pools are formed when the tide recedes, revealing a series of crystal-clear pools that are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and cliff jumping.

The best time to visit Magpupungko Rock Formations is during low tide, you should plan on getting there about an hour before.  Timing is eveything for this visit, if the tide is up the pools are completely submerged and it is not advisable to swim in the area as there are obviously lots of rocks.  Here's a link to the tidal charts for that area, don't be late!

There is a small entrance fee to visit Magpupungko Rock Formations, and there are a few local vendors selling food and drinks on site. There are also a few small huts where you can change and leave your belongings.

Currently (June 2023) the entrance fee is 50 pesos, and if you have a car they will charge you another 20 pesos for parking.
