Annapurna Base Camp Trek:  Spring 2022

This is a Google Maps route of our Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek.  I'm a map geek, so I like to plot everything out.

We will fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara on Yeti Air, then a jeep from Pokhara to Uleri and start trekking from there.

This will be our 2nd time trekking to Annapurna Base Camp.  It is not as high or long as other treks such as the Annapurna Circuit, but in our opinion ABC is more challenging due to the ascent and decent required.  You will have a love / hate relationship with rivers and stairs by the time you're done.  This is my favorite trek by far, the view from ABC is fantastic.  As you can see from the GoogleEarth 3D view from my ABC map, you're in a bowl surounded by 600m+ peaks.

This time our itinerary deviates from the standard ABC trek.  We will be spending a night at both Deurali and MBC to reduce the chance of AMS.  We have both had AMS before because we were climbing too fast, so we've learned the hard way and are going to take it slower up at altitude.  We are also spending the last night of the trek at Ghandruk vice Jinu.  Ghandruk is a good size village and one of our favorite places.

We always hire guides and porters through Mr. Happy at www.happytreksnepal.com.  His guides are all licensed and certified by the government of Nepal.  Certified guides must pass an exam that includes proficiency in English (along with everything else needed for trekking like safety and basic medical).  I cannot understate how important it is to be able to communicate with your guide.  We have met many other trekkers that did not have certified guides.  The situation usually ends up with frustration and tears when it's difficult to sometimes even order a meal.  It's not worth trying to save a couple of dollars, pounds, dinars, krone, won, yen, or euros.
